The localization of the European photovoltaic industry has reached a major breakthrough. Solar Organic Centro España recently announced that it will build a 10GW annual solar module and battery manufacturing plant in Socuéllamos, Ciudad Real, in the Castile-La Mancha region of Spain.Regarding project progress, the company held a special work meeting with the Autonomous Region government last week. It is understood that the factory will adopt advanced technology from Taiwan, China, mainly producing monocrystalline PERC and n-type TOPCon battery modules. The production line is compatible with large-size module specifications of up to 2500mm x 1400mm, aligning with the current trend of photovoltaic technology development towards high efficiency and large scale.

Although a specific construction timeline has not yet been announced, the local government has clearly designated it as a priority project. The autonomous region government stated that it has been advancing project progress through substantive measures such as simplifying approval processes, and actively assisting companies in obtaining EU special fund support.

The planning of this mega-factory coincides with the strategic window for the EU to strengthen energy autonomy. The EU's recently established €3.4 billion Clean Energy Manufacturing Fund is continuously promoting the construction of local clean technology manufacturing capabilities. Although current European photovoltaic manufacturing capacity is still insufficient, there is a clear acceleration trend - Chinese photovoltaic company Astronergy started construction of a 3GW module factory in France this year, and local startup Carbon also started manufacturing capacity construction at the same time.If the project is successfully implemented, it will significantly enhance the autonomous and controllable capabilities of the European photovoltaic industry chain, becoming an important pillar of the EU's "Net-Zero Industry Act" framework for the localization strategy of clean energy manufacturing.
