On September 6th, Unit 5 of the 2 × 1000 MW coal-fired power plant expansion project of Gansu Power Investment Changle Power Plant, jointly contracted by China Energy Engineering Northwest Institute and Construction Group, successfully passed the 168 hour full load trial operation and officially entered commercial operation. Unit 6 is expected to be put into operation by the end of September, with a total installed capacity of 6 million kilowatts, making it the largest cluster of million kilowatt coal-fired power plants in the country.
The Changle Power Plant Expansion Project is located in Guazhou County, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, with a total investment of approximately 7.24 billion yuan. It is a key energy construction project for the national western development and a major project in Gansu Province. The project will expand two 1000 MW ultra supercritical indirect air-cooled coal-fired power generation units on the basis of the first phase 4 × 1000 MW units, and build supporting desulfurization and denitrification devices to achieve the goals of low energy consumption, high efficiency, and low emissions.

The project adopts ultra supercritical parameter host and multiple advanced technologies, including furnace design suitable for Xinjiang coal, ultra large cooling tower, low-temperature economizer flue gas waste heat utilization system, etc. The environmental protection indicators of the unit have reached ultra-low emission levels, effectively reducing coal and water consumption and improving regulation performance.
As an important pivot and reliable power source of the national "West East Power Transmission" strategy, the project is expected to generate an annual power output of 30 billion kilowatt hours and an annual output value of over 10 billion yuan after full operation. It will significantly optimize the energy structure of Gansu, enhance the stability of the power grid, improve the consumption capacity of new energy, help green power transmission, promote sustainable local economic development, and also mark a major breakthrough in China's large-scale wind and solar power base supporting thermal power construction in desert areas.
