In 2025, the global photovoltaic industry will make significant progress in the African market. Chinese photovoltaic leader Longi Green Energy has officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Nigerian Energy Commission to jointly build a solar cell module manufacturing plant with a capacity of 500 to 1000 MW in Nigeria. At the same time, off grid solar energy company Sun King has announced plans for its first production bases in Africa, setting up localized production lines in Kenya and Nigeria. The Kenya factory has an initial annual production capacity of 700000 sets of solar equipment.
The cooperation of Longi Green Energy stems from the Nigerian delegation's in-depth inspection of its global headquarters in Xi'an, Shaanxi. Accompanied by executives such as Longi President Zhong Baoshen, the delegation visited the globally leading solar cell production base. This collaboration, referred to by Nigerian energy officials as the 'Energy Transition Milestone Project', marks the substantial implementation of LONGi's localization manufacturing strategy in Africa. It is reported that the memorandum of understanding signed by both parties in London as early as early as 2025 has laid the foundation for this cooperation.
Another important participant, Sun King, was the first to launch the construction of its first production base in Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. The company stated that the new factory not only reserves expansion space, but also plans to launch the construction of a production base in Nigeria in the later stage. Under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Nigeria Rural Electrification Authority, Sun King has committed to advancing the "Nigeria First" policy, focusing on cooperation in three areas: local assembly of high-value products, technology cooperation for energy efficiency improvement, and advocacy for the inclusion of off grid solar energy in the national energy strategy.

It is worth noting that Sun King estimates that its production base in Nigeria can replace imported products worth over $150 million in the next five years. This data fully reflects the important significance of localized manufacturing for African countries to achieve import substitution and industrialization goals. As a leading enterprise in the field of off grid solar energy, Sun King currently sells about 300000 sets of solar equipment in Africa every month. In 2023, it also reached a $130 million securitization agreement with Citibank to continue expanding its business layout in the African market. These investment measures not only create a large number of job opportunities for Africa, reduce logistics costs and carbon emissions, but also effectively promote the "300 Mission" plan through technological collaboration and knowledge sharing, which aims to connect 300 million African people to electricity by 2030. As global photovoltaic companies accelerate their layout in Africa, this continent is becoming a new highland for the development of renewable energy, injecting new impetus into the global energy transition.
