O-Green, a subsidiary of Oman Investment Authority (OIA), and Botswana Power Company (BPC) officially signed a power purchase and sale agreement (PPA) to build a 500MW photovoltaic power station and supporting 500MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Maun, Botswana.

As the first project under the framework of 3GW energy cooperation between the two countries, this project marks that Botswana's largest renewable energy investment has officially entered the implementation stage. The project will be constructed and operated by Naqaa Sustainable Energy, a subsidiary of O-Green.

The government of Botswana attaches great importance to this investment and believes that it is a key measure for the country to achieve the strategic goal of 50% clean energy by 2030, which also means that the 3GW expanded energy cooperation framework signed by the two countries in November 2025 has made a substantial commercial breakthrough. Mustafa Mohammed Al Hinai, CEO of O-Green, said that after the project is put into operation, it is expected to double the existing total power generation capacity of Botswana; Relying on a 500MW battery energy storage system, the project can provide 24/7 (RTC) renewable energy, significantly improving the reliability of the country's power grid and more efficiently responding to peak energy management needs.
