The Egypt Abidus Phase II 1GW+600MWh solar energy storage project, jointly contracted by China Energy Engineering International Group, Zhejiang Thermal Power, and Southwest Institute, has made significant progress - the installation of photovoltaic modules has been fully launched. This marks the official entry of the largest integrated photovoltaic and energy storage project currently under construction in Africa into a critical stage of construction, taking a solid step towards achieving the goal of full capacity grid connected power generation by 2025.

The project is located in the southern desert region of Egypt, covering a total area of over 20 square kilometers, equivalent to the size of 2800 standard football fields. The scope of project work includes the construction of 1GW photovoltaic power generation capacity, 600MWh energy storage system, 500kV substation and supporting ancillary works. It is worth mentioning that the project will install over 2 million high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules made in China, which have excellent power generation performance in strong desert environments.

At present, the project team is scientifically organizing construction and synchronously promoting multiple processes such as photovoltaic area leveling, pile foundation construction, and support installation. By implementing modular construction and refined management, we ensure that both project quality and progress meet the standards. After the project is connected to the grid for power generation, it is expected to meet the daily electricity needs of over 500000 households in Egypt, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.56 million tons per year, equivalent to planting nearly 9 million trees for afforestation.

As the largest solar energy storage project undertaken by China in Africa, this project not only demonstrates China's comprehensive technological strength in the field of new energy, but also provides important support for Egypt's energy structure transformation. The project team stated that it will be developed into a demonstration project for China Egypt green energy cooperation, making a positive contribution to promoting sustainable economic and social development in Egypt.
