Recently, Iceland Carbon Recycling International and Jilin Huajin Energy Co., Ltd. successfully held a signing ceremony for the Yushu Green Methanol project in Shanghai. This major project with a total investment of 21.4 billion yuan is not only a core demonstration project to implement China's "3060" dual carbon target, but also a key carrier for China's new energy strategic emerging industry with its globally leading "negative carbon" production technology, marking a milestone in China's green fuel field.

The Yushu project is located in Yushu City, Jilin Province, and its most eye-catching highlight lies in the disruptive innovation of its technological path. As the first comprehensive demonstration project in China that couples green electricity with biomass to produce methanol, the project abandons traditional fossil energy raw materials and adopts a unique dual path production process of green electricity and biomass.

This technology utilizes renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power to electrolyze water to produce "green hydrogen", which is then catalytically synthesized with carbon dioxide produced during biomass conversion to ultimately produce green methanol. This clever carbon recycling model not only achieves zero carbon emissions in the production process, but also achieves significant "negative carbon" effects by capturing and utilizing carbon from biomass. According to estimates, the project can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 410000 tons annually and produce 270000 tons of green methanol. More importantly, its overall energy consumption has been reduced by 4% compared to traditional processes, setting a new technological benchmark for global green methanol production in terms of energy efficiency and emission reduction.

The strategic significance of this project goes far beyond being an independent industrial project. In terms of energy security, an annual output of 270000 tons will significantly enhance China's independent supply capacity of green fuels, providing key clean energy solutions for areas such as transportation and shipping that are difficult to electrify, and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.

At the level of industrial ecology, the project is committed to building a closed-loop ecology of "resource efficient utilization renewable energy carbon circular economy". It turns agricultural waste and other biomass resources into treasures, while maximizing the consumption of local wind, solar and green electricity, perfectly interpreting the core connotation of circular economy and providing a replicable and promotable innovative development model for the green transformation of the old industrial base in Northeast China.

As an important participant in the project, China Railway Construction Bridge Bureau stated at the signing ceremony that it will uphold the three concepts of green transformation, open cooperation, and sustainable value, and rely on its strong advantages in the entire infrastructure industry chain to provide full cycle support for the project from construction to operation. The successful cooperation between China and Iceland this time is not only the result of complementary advantages in the field of low-carbon technology, but also a powerful witness to the international community's joint response to climate change. China Railway Construction Bridge Bureau promises to work together with all parties to build the Yushu project into a globally influential green energy demonstration base. This move not only injects new green energy into China Iceland cooperation, but also demonstrates the wisdom and responsibility of Chinese enterprises in global climate governance to the world, contributing a demonstrative Chinese solution to promote the transformation of the global energy structure.Editor/Cheng Liting
