On the Gobi Desert in southern Xinjiang, the development of clean energy has added another heavyweight benefit - the 250MW/1000MWh grid type independent energy storage project in Wushi County, with a total investment of about 1.5 billion yuan, has recently officially started construction in the local photovoltaic industry park. As a leading grid type energy storage demonstration project in southern Xinjiang, the project will become a "power buffer" for solving the problem of new energy consumption and stabilizing the regional power grid with its core configuration of "250 MW power+1000 MW capacity", injecting strong momentum into the construction of Xinjiang's new power system.

The project is located in the core area of the Wushi County Photovoltaic Industrial Park, covering an area of approximately 125 acres. It is planned to construct 20 energy storage battery compartments, 10 energy storage converter and booster compartments, and supporting control systems. It is expected to be fully connected to the grid in the first half of 2026. Unlike traditional energy storage projects, this project adopts advanced grid type control technology and has the ability to respond to grid frequency regulation and peak shaving needs in milliseconds. It can independently support grid voltage and frequency stability, and can maintain local power supply even when disconnected from the main grid, completely breaking the traditional "passive following" operation mode of energy storage.

The engineering construction will deeply integrate the characteristics of the Gobi landform in Xinjiang, using customized equipment that is windproof, sand resistant, and resistant to extreme temperature differences. The battery compartment will be equipped with intelligent fire extinguishing and temperature and humidity control systems, which can adapt to environmental temperature differences of -30 ℃ to 50 ℃, ensuring stable operation under complex climate conditions in southern Xinjiang. During the construction phase, modular assembly technology will be adopted to reduce on-site workload, while supporting the construction of ecological facilities such as photovoltaic parking lots and green corridors, achieving synchronous promotion of "engineering construction+ecological restoration".

After the completion of the project, it can consume approximately 390 million kilowatt hours of new energy annually, equivalent to replacing 118000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 390000 tons. It provides efficient energy storage support for existing and under construction photovoltaic projects in the Wushi County Photovoltaic Industrial Park, significantly improving the on-site consumption rate of new energy. In addition, the project will also achieve diversified benefits through peak valley electricity price arbitrage and providing auxiliary services, with an expected annual revenue of over 120 million yuan, driving local employment of over 200 people, and forming a green industrial ecology of "energy storage+photovoltaics" coordinated development.

It is worth noting that the implementation of the project will promote the large-scale application of grid based energy storage technology in southern Xinjiang, providing replicable and promotable construction experience for similar projects in the future. With the rapid development of Xinjiang's new energy industry, this energy storage project will complement surrounding photovoltaic and wind power projects, building an integrated clean energy supply system of "wind, solar, and storage", helping Xinjiang build a national comprehensive energy base, and providing more stable and reliable power guarantee for the "West East Power Transmission" project.
