With the wind from the Baltic Sea blowing towards the Pomeranian coast, Poland's clean energy transition has reached an important milestone. On December 2, 2025, Ocean Winds, a joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, announced that its first large-scale offshore wind power project, BC Wind, developed in Poland, has reached financial closure and officially started construction. This wind farm, with a total investment of about 2 billion euros and an installed capacity of 390 megawatts, will not only promote Poland's energy structure to transition towards green and low-carbon, but also mark the substantial development stage of the country's offshore wind power industry.

Project Overview and Technical Highlights
The BC Wind wind farm is located within the exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea in Poland, approximately 23 kilometers from the coastline, in the waters near the cities of Krokova and Hochevo. The project will install 26 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW wind turbines and increase the maximum output power of each unit to 15 MW through Power Boost technology, effectively improving overall power generation efficiency. According to the plan, the wind farm is expected to be connected to the grid for the first time in 2028, and once put into operation, it will provide Poland with stable and reliable renewable energy power.
Financial Security and International Cooperation
The project financing structure is diverse and stable, with the European Investment Bank providing about one-third of the funding support, and the Spanish official credit bureau and 13 commercial banks also participating in the financing, providing sufficient financial guarantee for the smooth progress of the project. This financing arrangement not only reflects the confidence of international financial institutions in the Polish renewable energy market, but also demonstrates Europe's collaborative cooperation in the field of energy transition.

Deep participation in the local industrial chain
The BC Wind project attaches great importance to the integration with local industries in Poland. The onshore project will start in 2026, with Polish company P&Q responsible for the design, construction, and cable laying of the onshore substation, while local cable manufacturer Tele-Fonika Kable will undertake the design and installation of the submarine cable. The ports of Svinoukyche and Gdansk will serve as equipment assembly ports and wind turbine transfer and installation bases, respectively. In addition, the project will also establish a dedicated operation and maintenance center in the city of Voadys ł aw, providing technical support for the full lifecycle operation of the wind farm and continuously driving local employment and industrial development.
