In Singapore, the scarcity of land resources has always constrained the development of large-scale renewable energy projects. Nowadays, a cross-border green cooperation is breaking through this bottleneck. On December 10, 2025, Chinese battery giant CATL reached an important agreement with Singaporean renewable energy developer Vena Energy to provide a 4GWh energy storage system for a photovoltaic energy storage project in Indonesia's Riau Islands.
4GWh bulk order landing, energy storage goes further overseas
According to the agreement, CATL will supply a 4GWh EnerX battery energy storage system to Vena Energy's subsidiary in Indonesia. The system uses 530Ah high-capacity battery cells, with a storage capacity of up to 5.6MWh per 20 foot container. This project originates from the Green Economy Corridor Initiative, a collaboration between Indonesia and Singapore. It aims to construct over 2GW of solar photovoltaic power plants in Indonesia, along with supporting energy storage facilities, ultimately achieving an annual export of approximately 2.6 terawatt hours of dispatchable clean electricity to Singapore.
Previously, both parties had a foundation for cooperation. In July of this year, CATL provided 2.2GWh energy storage units for Vena Energy's projects, and this new 4GWh order further consolidates the partnership between the two parties. It is worth mentioning that CATL's factory in Indonesia is currently under construction, with an initial annual production capacity of 6.9 GWh and the potential to expand to over 15 GWh in the future, providing localized support for regional energy storage development.

The rise of the energy storage market in Southeast Asia and the collective efforts of Chinese enterprises
Southeast Asia is becoming a new hotspot for global energy storage growth. Data shows that the energy storage market in the region is expected to grow from 25.2 billion yuan in 2025 to 35 billion yuan in 2030, and the installed capacity in the ASEAN region is expected to reach 12 GWh by 2025. Diverse market driving factors: Singapore, as a capital and operational hub, integrates regional energy demand; Vietnam and Thailand promote large-scale wind and solar projects through mandatory storage allocation policies; Indonesia focuses on using "photovoltaic+energy storage" microgrids to solve power supply problems in remote areas. Meanwhile, the increase in electricity prices has also stimulated the rise of energy storage demand in the industrial and commercial sectors.
In this context, Chinese enterprises are actively expanding their presence. Apart from CATL, Sunac recently secured an order for a 1.5GWh energy storage system in the Philippines; China Energy Engineering Corporation has been awarded a 1.2GWh energy storage project in the Philippines; Hongzheng Energy Storage, Lvde and other companies have also obtained cooperation agreements for 100MWh and 500MWh respectively in Vietnam. Chinese enterprises are deeply participating in the energy transformation of Southeast Asia with their technological strength and industrial chain advantages.
New pattern of green energy, China's intelligent manufacturing chain connects the world
From factory construction in Indonesia to cross-border project cooperation, Chinese companies are transforming innovative technologies and production capacity advantages in the energy storage field into sustainable global value. The Southeast Asian market is just a microcosm. In the wave of global energy structure transformation, Chinese companies provide reliable solutions for green goals in various countries with solid manufacturing capabilities and flexible project experience.
