The "Wenluo" is jointly developed by Sichuan Xunfei Aviation and West China Hospital. It has innovative designs such as vertical takeoff and landing, and a complete rescue parachute. It will be applied in scenarios such as earthquakes and snow disasters, injecting new momentum into China's low altitude economy and high-end equipment development, and promoting Chengdu to build an aviation industry highland.

On December 29, 2025, in the Qingchong Aviation Technology Industrial Park in Chengdu, a plane resembling a "deep-sea ray" slowly exited the hangar. Amidst the sound of propeller rotation, the aircraft named "Wen Ray" WY1600 completed its first final assembly and launched field testing. It is not only the world's first electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft designed specifically for aviation emergency rescue, but also a flying "airborne emergency cabin".

Its birth directly points to the most difficult problem in disaster relief: once an earthquake or snow disaster causes road interruptions, ground rescue forces find it difficult to quickly enter the core disaster area. With a maximum range of 300 kilometers and a cruising speed of 250 kilometers per hour, the "Wen Ray" can flexibly traverse complex terrain and quickly arrive at the scene. The aircraft can carry one pilot, two medical staff, and one lying down patient, with stretchers and reverse seats for easy aerial care, truly achieving the goal of "sending the emergency room to the blue sky".

It can take off and land vertically, and is also equipped with a complete rescue parachute

The maximum takeoff weight of the "Wen Ray" is 1.8 tons, and it adopts a composite power layout of tilt rotor and ducted lift fan. It also supports vertical takeoff and landing, slide takeoff and landing, and short takeoff and landing, adapting to various harsh terrains and environments. The most eye-catching feature is that it is equipped with a complete life parachute system, which can provide the last safety barrier for the aircraft and passengers in emergency situations, achieving the integration of efficient flight and safety protection.

The emergency alliance between aviation engineers and medical teams

Behind this aircraft is the deep cross-border integration between Sichuan Xunfei Aviation and West China Hospital of Sichuan University. The R&D team fully utilizes the resources of both regions, forming a collaborative model of "R&D in Qingyang and transformation in Chongzhou". Chongzhou City provides 767.1 square kilometers of test flight airspace and an average of about 300 days of available flight days per year, providing ideal conditions for testing optimization. The medical rescue experience of West China Hospital ensures that the interior space and equipment layout truly meet the needs of emergency treatment.

From disaster relief to diversified expansion of low altitude economy

The primary mission of "Wenluo" is emergency medical rescue, striving for "golden rescue time" for disasters. But its application scenarios are not limited to this - in the future, it can also be expanded to commuting, cultural tourism, education and training fields, catering to the diversified development trend of China's low altitude economy. Led by this project, Chengdu is accelerating the gathering of the upstream and downstream industry chain of aircraft manufacturing, promoting the Qingchong Aviation Technology Industry Corridor to move towards the "highland of China's new civil aircraft industry in western China". Keywords: Low altitude economy

With the launch of the field testing of the "Wenyue", the full chain industrial carrier from laboratory research and development, complete machine assembly to flight testing has begun to take shape in Chengdu. This land may be nurturing a new growth pole for China's low altitude economy in the future, and the launch of the "air ambulance" has written a new page for China's aviation emergency rescue.Editor/Yang Meiling
