The energy map of the Yangtze River Delta is about to usher in a key super artery. On April 28, 2026, the State Grid Zhejiang 1000 kV High Voltage AC Loop Network Project officially started construction. This mega project, with a total investment of 29.3 billion yuan, not only broke the record for single investment and scale of China's ultra-high voltage AC transmission, but also will build a core hub for efficient allocation of clean energy in East China, injecting strong impetus into regional energy security and green low-carbon transformation.

Building a closed-loop energy system within the province
The project starts in Jiaxing and ends in Lishui, connecting seven cities including Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Ningbo, Taizhou, and Wenzhou, with a total length of 508 kilometers. As the largest and highest investment ultra-high voltage AC transmission project in China, it is planned to be fully completed by 2029. After being put into operation, it will be closed with the existing power grid architecture in Zhejiang, forming a ultra-high voltage grid structure consisting of one ring line within the province and four DC lines outside the province, significantly enhancing the power supply guarantee capacity and flexibility of the power grid operation in Zhejiang province.
Annual emission reduction of over 40 million tons
The core mission of engineering is to solve the problem of clean energy consumption. During the 15th Five Year Plan period, it is expected that the coastal areas of Zhejiang will add over 31 million kilowatts of clean power, which will be transmitted to the East China load center through this ring network. Data shows that after the project is fully completed, it can consume over 57 billion kilowatt hours of clean energy annually, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 44.62 million tons, which will become a key support for the Yangtze River Delta to achieve its dual carbon goals. From the banks of the Qiantang River to the banks of the Ou River, this 508 kilometer ultra-high voltage silver line is not only a physical channel for electricity, but also a strategic benchmark for the energy revolution. Its completion will completely reshape the energy landscape of Zhejiang, ensuring reliable power supply in the Yangtze River Delta while providing a perfect balance between economic prosperity and ecological protection along the eastern coast of China with an annual transmission of 57 billion kilowatt hours of green electricity.Editor/Cheng Liting
