On December 31st, in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, the 230 kV Taviang Mahasai power transmission and transformation project, invested and constructed by the China Laos joint venture Lao National Transmission Grid Company, officially broke ground, marking a new stage of strengthening and upgrading the construction of the Lao National Grid. More than a hundred people, including Lao Deputy Prime Minister Charente, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Zhantaben, and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Laos Li Xizhen, witnessed this moment together.

On the same day, a two-year anniversary event of the operation of the Lao National Transmission Grid Company was held on site. This joint venture, established two years ago by China Southern Power Grid Corporation and Laos State Power Company, has become a key platform for promoting regional power interconnection and assisting Laos' energy development.

New project strengthens the lifeline of the power grid

The upcoming Taviang Mahasai power transmission and transformation project carries the important mission of strengthening the backbone network of Laos' national power grid. After the completion of the project, it will directly enhance the structural stability and transmission capacity of the power grid from northern to central Laos.

This new power channel is like injecting a shot in the arm into Laos' energy system, aiming to solve the bottleneck problem of power transmission and enhance the overall resilience and reliability of the national power grid. It is not only a physical line, but also an important infrastructure for Laos to optimize its energy allocation and ensure stable domestic power supply.

The joint venture company has achieved fruitful results after two years of operation

Since its establishment two years ago, the Lao National Transmission Grid Company, as the flagship project of China Laos energy cooperation, has achieved significant operational results. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Laos, Zhantaben, affirmed at the ceremony that the company has achieved significant results in promoting power cooperation between Laos and China.

This joint venture is not only the builder of a single project, but also the planner and founder of the unified national power grid in Laos. It relies on China's advanced technology and management experience in the field of ultra-high voltage and large-scale power grid operation, providing solid support for Laos to build a safe, efficient, and modern national power grid system, and implementing the strategic docking between the two countries into specific projects.

New driving forces for the transformation and development of clean energy

The profound significance of this project goes far beyond the reinforcement of the power grid itself. Li Xizhen, Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Laos, pointed out that the project will "help Laos transform its clean energy endowment into a development advantage driving growth".

Laos has abundant clean energy resources such as hydropower, but how to efficiently and stably deliver them to demand areas has always been a key issue. The advancement of the Tawiyan Mahasai project is an important part of solving this problem. It means that Laos can more effectively transform its natural resource advantages into economic development advantages, not only meeting domestic demand, but also laying a more solid foundation for becoming a regional "battery" and electricity exporting country in the future, truly illuminating the prospects of sustainable development.
