Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Transport, Mahezat Hariakhparrov, stated on the 4th that by 2026, approximately 11000 kilometers of road projects will be promoted nationwide, covering new construction, renovation, maintenance, and digital governance. Multiple key channels will be implemented simultaneously, and the industry's prosperity and enterprise participation will significantly increase.

11000 kilometers of road construction is fully underway

In 2026, road construction in Kazakhstan will enter an "acceleration period". Deputy Minister of Transport Mahsat Hari Akhpariyev stated that in order to implement the instructions of the head of state, the country will continue to systematically develop its road infrastructure, with the aim of strengthening inter regional transportation links, improving road safety, and enhancing people's quality of life.

Specifically, of the 11000 kilometer road project, 2300 kilometers will be used for new construction and renovation, 5000 kilometers for large and medium-sized maintenance, and 4000 kilometers for local road network development projects.

The key projects include: continuing to promote the construction of the 208 kilometer highway from Ultau Oblast to Kizillorda and Jezkazgan; Implement the 896 kilometer long Central Western Highway Project; And channels such as Aktobe Ulgaisin (232 kilometers) and Karaganda Jezkazgan (572 kilometers). The Ministry of Transport stated that the relevant feasibility study has been completed, funding has been secured, and the project is progressing according to plan.

Digital supervision: comprehensive upgrade of speed measurement stations and weighing stations

The increase in road investment stems from the urgent need to enhance transit and transportation capabilities. As an important hub connecting Europe and Asia, Kazakhstan is strengthening regional connections through systematic road network construction and promoting governance upgrades with safety and efficiency as the focus.

As of now, 71 automatic speed measurement stations have been installed on highways across the country, with 38 located on national highways and 33 on local highways. The plan is to increase the number of speed measurement stations to 220 in the future. At the same time, unified technical requirements for the installation and operation of automated weighing stations have been approved, which are integrated with the Unified Administrative Procedure Registration System (URP) processing center. The system will automatically generate instructions regarding violations of weight parameters recorded by automated weighing stations, and industry supervision will enter the digital stage.

Give equal importance to engineering construction and digital solutions

Driven by major projects in the central and western regions, the demand for road construction, maintenance, and supporting services is simultaneously released. The Ministry of Transport emphasizes that by 2026, a comprehensive approach will be adopted to promote construction, maintenance, and management, including both traditional civil engineering and maintenance, as well as the introduction of modern digital solutions such as speed measurement and weighing.

This layout provides a clear path for engineering contracting, equipment supply, and information technology enterprises to participate. With the centralized implementation of the project, it is expected to improve the quality and safety level of roads in the long run, and form social and economic benefits that promote regional sustainable development by improving logistics efficiency.

Kazakhstan is located at the transportation hub of the Eurasian continent and has unique advantages in developing logistics transportation. In recent years, the country has continued to increase investment in transportation infrastructure, and plans to complete the construction of 4700 km of new roads by 2030, of which 3700 km are first-class highway, with a total investment of more than 9 trillion tenge. At the same time, Kazakhstan is accelerating the construction of the Trans Caspian International Transport Corridor, enhancing cross-border logistics capabilities, and improving regional connectivity. Keywords: the Belt and Road news, traffic construction news

Under the framework of the the Belt and Road Initiative, China Kazakhstan transport cooperation has been deepening. In 2023, the bilateral trade volume between Kazakhstan and China will reach 41 billion US dollars, the bilateral railway transportation volume will exceed 28 million tons, and the number of flights per week will be close to 30. The continuous improvement of transportation infrastructure will further consolidate Kazakhstan's position as an important transportation hub connecting the East and the West, providing a more efficient and safer logistics channel for regional economic and trade exchanges.Editor/Yang Meiling
