On January 6, 2026, it was learned from China Railway Group Co., Ltd. Nanning Bureau Group Co., Ltd. that in 2025, 1.425 million TEUs of container goods will be shipped by trains on the Western Land Sea New Corridor, a year-on-year increase of 47.6%. For the first time, the annual shipping volume has exceeded one million TEUs, setting a new historical high. The growth trend of transportation volume in the channel is strong, and it has built a logistics artery connecting western China with ASEAN, becoming an international trade channel for China to carry out economic and trade cooperation with countries along the route and maintain global supply chain stability.

Annual shipping volume exceeds one million TEUs for the first time

Data shows that in 2025, the Western Land Sea New Channel trains will ship 701000 TEUs of goods from western regions such as Sichuan, Chongqing, and Yunnan to ports such as Beibu Gulf Port and Zhanjiang Port, a year-on-year increase of 40.4%; 724000 TEUs of goods were shipped from ports to the western region, a year-on-year increase of 55.3%, with both directions maintaining high growth rates.

From the perspective of supply structure, there are not only livelihood materials such as grain, edible vegetable oil, and feed, but also production raw materials such as bauxite and iron ore sent from ports to the western region; In the western region, specialty products such as automotive parts, lemons, and tea are exported through ports, with a constantly expanding range of categories, driving the continuous increase in transportation volume.

The number of scheduled train routes has increased to 44

In order to attract more customers to choose the Western Land Sea New Channel train transportation, China Railway Nanning Bureau has promoted the "negative list" management of containers, and expanded the product names of train transportation to more than 11000, basically covering suitable container sources. At the same time, according to the transportation demand of the areas along the channel, new scheduled train lines will be added from Fangchenggang to Debao and from Qinzhou Port East to Baise East.

As of now, there are a total of 44 scheduled train routes for the Western Land Sea New Corridor, an increase of 21 from the end of 2024. The train network has been further densified, effectively meeting the rapidly increasing transportation demand for trains.

The international logistics network is becoming wider and wider

Nowadays, the Western Land Sea New Corridor trains have achieved normalized docking with the China Europe and Central Asia trains, opening up "Beibu Gulf Port Chengdu Poland Germany" department store trains, "Hainan Qinzhou Xi'an" grain and oil trains, "UAE Qinzhou Lanzhou" automobile trains, etc., weaving an efficient international logistics network for the two-way prosperity of "domestic goods going abroad" and "foreign goods entering China", and building a convenient bridge.

Through modes such as rail sea intermodal transportation and the "ASEAN Express", the Western Land Sea New Corridor has achieved seamless connection with the China Europe freight train, closely linking the two major economic regions of Europe and Southeast Asia, forming a land sea intermodal transportation corridor that runs through Europe and Asia. Compared with traditional routes, the transportation time is significantly shortened, providing better logistics options for high value-added and time sensitive goods.Editor/Yang Meiling
