On January 21, 2026, the National Development and Reform Commission approved the feasibility study report for the Fuyang Huanggang section of the Beijing Hong Kong high-speed railway, marking the start of construction for this high-speed railway project that has been planned for nearly a decade. This line, designed with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour and a total investment of approximately 52.1 billion yuan, has a total length of 318.1 kilometers and will run through Anhui, Henan, and Hubei provinces, benefiting 25 million people along the way.

Years of planning, finally welcoming breakthroughs
The blueprint for the Fuhuang high-speed railway can be traced back to 2016, when it was already included in the national medium - and long-term railway network plan. 2025 is a crucial year for project advancement. It passed the pre feasibility study review in July, completed the feasibility study review in September, and passed the feasibility evaluation by the National Development and Reform Commission and the industry review by the National Railway Administration at the end of November. As an important component of the Beijing Hong Kong Taiwan corridor in the national eight vertical and eight horizontal high-speed railway network, this line is designed under the leadership of China Railway Fourth Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd., covering an area of over 50000 square kilometers, and will become an important transportation link connecting North China, Central China, and South China.
Crossing three provinces, weaving a network of hubs
According to the plan, the total length of the line is about 318.386 kilometers, including 53.565 kilometers in Anhui, 135.639 kilometers in Henan, and 129.182 kilometers in Hubei. Six new stations will be built along the entire line, and three existing stations will be utilized. Starting from Fuyang West Station within Anhui Province, plan simultaneously for Funan East Station; New stations such as Xinzhou East Station, Hong'an East Station, Macheng West Station, and Huangzhou Station will be built within Hubei Province. The project also includes supporting projects in Fuyang hub, Macheng area, and related road network projects in Jiujiang hub, forming a multi-level transportation network. Connecting arteries and activating areas
For Anhui, this project will consolidate the position of Fuyang Wanbei Railway Hub, and achieve the goal of connecting counties with high-speed railways through links with Shanghe Hangzhou High speed Railway, Zhengfu High speed Railway, and the under construction Fuhuai Intercity Railway. The Hubei section has a total length of about 128 kilometers and an investment of 23.1 billion yuan. It will improve the Wuhan super meter shaped high-speed railway network, and in the future, a direct fast track to the Shandong Peninsula and Northeast China can be built through the Wuhan Hong'an connecting line. For Henan, the line runs through the eastern part of Xinyang, ending the history of counties in southeastern Henan such as Huaibin and Xinxian not being connected to high-speed rail, and allowing the revolutionary old areas of Dabie Mountains to directly connect to the national high-speed rail backbone network. The preliminary review of project land has been approved in batches on September 30 and early November 2025, laying the foundation for comprehensive construction.Editor/Gao Xue
