The cold wind on the banks of the Narun River in winter is chilling, but on the construction site of the Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway Co., Ltd., it is a hot scene. On January 19, 2026, Turgonbayev, the Deputy Minister of Transport of Kyrgyzstan, appeared in front of this rising administrative office building. His arrival marked that this highly anticipated cross-border railway line was gradually turning from a blueprint into a reality.

As a key project connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway has been driving the nerves of regional development with every progress since the joint announcement of the three heads of state on December 27, 2024. Nowadays, the construction status of the project command center has become an important benchmark for measuring the overall efficiency of project promotion.

Strictly control progress and safety

During the inspection on that day, Deputy Minister Turgongbayev carefully examined every aspect of the construction of the office building. According to a notice released by the Ministry of Transport of Kyrgyzstan, the inspection team not only gained a detailed understanding of the specific progress of current construction and installation, but also conducted strict checks on the project design scheme, schedule adherence, and implementation of building regulations.

Safety and quality are the lifeline of the project. During the inspection process, construction safety measures and the condition of engineering infrastructure became the focus of attention. From the safety of scaffolding to the compliance of building materials, from the protection of construction personnel to the preparation of emergency plans, the inspection team is meticulous in every aspect. One of the core tasks of this inspection is to assess whether the current stage meets the conditions for transitioning to the next construction stage. As the "brain" of project management and coordination, the successful completion of the office building will provide solid logistical and command support for the subsequent construction of the entire line.

Efficient promotion of trilateral cooperation

After the inspection, Deputy Minister Turgongbayev immediately presided over the weekly meeting of the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan railway construction project. In this established coordination mechanism, project leaders and engineers from China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan gather together.

On the conference table, the latest engineering drawings and data reports are spread out. The attending parties had frank and in-depth discussions on specific issues encountered in recent construction, such as technical integration, cross-border transportation of materials, and personnel allocation. Unlike typical business processes, weekly meetings are designed for quick response and on-site decision-making. For each issue, all parties will jointly analyze the root causes, clarify the responsible parties, and finalize specific solutions and timelines. This efficient and pragmatic collaboration model is the key to ensuring that this complex cross-border project can proceed as planned.

523 kilometer strategic link

The China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway is not an ordinary transportation line. The total length is about 523 kilometers (including 304.94 kilometers in Kyrgyzstan), and it adopts a mixed design that takes into account both Chinese standard gauge and CIS wide gauge. There are 20 stations along the way, and the proportion of bridges and tunnels crossing the complex terrain of the Pamir Plateau is as high as 39%. Behind these numbers are enormous engineering challenges and unprecedented strategic opportunities.

The project has been unanimously positioned by the heads of state of the three countries as a strategically significant regional connectivity project. It is not only a physical channel, but also an "artery" for economic integration. After the railway is completed, it will form the shortest freight route from Xinjiang, China to Central Asia, and then to West Asia and Southern Europe. The transportation distance will be shortened by about 900 kilometers compared to the existing route, saving 7 to 8 days in time. This will greatly reduce logistics costs, promote cooperation in various fields such as trade, energy, and tourism along the route, and inject strong impetus into the economic development of the entire Central Asian region.
