On February 3, 2026, a consortium consisting of China Jiangxi International Corporation and Shandong Taikai Electric Power Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. successfully won the bid for the first section of the Cambodia State Grid Upgrade Project. This not only marks a new breakthrough in infrastructure cooperation between China and Cambodia, but also injects strong impetus into Cambodia's efforts to enhance the stability and coverage of national power supply.

Construct and expand five substations

The core construction content of this section includes the construction and expansion of a total of 5 high-voltage substations, involving two key voltage levels of 230 kV and 115 kV. The project adopts a "turnkey" engineering model, covering the entire process from design, equipment procurement, construction to installation and commissioning. The scope of the project covers not only the core areas of the capital Phnom Penh, such as Sensu District, Mianzhi District, and Langge District, but also the important western provinces of Kampong Chhnang Province, Bodhisattva Province, and the economic and agricultural center of Battambang Province. The aim is to strengthen the capital's power grid while radiating westward and optimizing the national backbone network structure.

Improving the quality and reliability of the power grid

By upgrading the high-voltage substation, this project will significantly enhance the transmission capacity, operational stability, and power supply reliability of Cambodia's power grid, effectively reduce transmission losses, and thus improve the overall quality of the country's power grid. The project directly responds to the rapid growth of Cambodia's economic development and people's electricity demand, especially the upgrading of high-voltage transmission networks in provinces outside the capital, providing key support for the modernization of its power infrastructure. Promote the early implementation of the project

The winning consortium stated that the next step will be to actively communicate with the project owner, accelerate the project into the substantive construction stage, and ensure the high-quality and efficient completion of the project. This project not only demonstrates the comprehensive strength of Chinese enterprises in the field of international power engineering, but also provides practical assistance for Cambodia's economic and social development and regional power interconnection.Editor/Gao Xue
