The release of a bidding announcement has once again brought the long-awaited railway artery of Guangdong and Guangxi provinces into focus. The bidding announcement for the feasibility study service of the Guangdong section of the Liuzhou Guangzhou Railway project has been officially launched. This steel dragon, which winds eastward from Liuzhou and is about to open in Guangxi, is finally about to start construction in Guangdong. With an investment of 31.9 billion yuan, a 231 kilometer route, and a designed speed of 160 kilometers per hour, the hinterland of central Guangxi will be more closely connected to the core area of the Pearl River Delta.

From the Three Provinces to Guangzhou
The Guangdong section of the Liuguang Railway project starts from the border between two provinces, passing through Zhaoqing City, Foshan City, and Guangzhou City. It uses the existing railway to introduce the Guangzhou hub, with a total length of about 231 kilometers and a design speed of 160 kilometers per hour. The estimated investment is about 31.9 billion yuan. This bidding is divided into two sections: Section 1 is about 124 kilometers from the Guangdong Guangxi provincial border to Zhaoqing Station, and Section 2 is about 107 kilometers from Zhaoqing Station to Guangzhou hub. The service period is until the feasibility study report of the project is approved by the administrative department.
The Advancement from Liu Zhao to Liu Guang
The Liuzhou Guangzhou Railway, formerly known as the Liuzhou Zhaoqing Railway, was originally planned to start construction during the 13th Five Year Plan period, but was temporarily postponed due to insufficient support for freight volume. In 2015, Liuzhao Railway was renamed Liuguang Railway. In 2016, it was included in the national medium and long-term railway network plan, and in 2021, it was first included in the national five-year railway special plan. The Guangxi section will start construction on the entire line in September 2022 and is planned to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2026. In the past two years, the progress of the Guangdong section has significantly accelerated, from the start of pre feasibility study work to the current feasibility study bidding, laying a solid foundation for the official start of construction during the 15th Five Year Plan period. Guizhong provides direct access to Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau
After the completion of the entire Liuguang Railway, a new channel will be formed from the Pearl River Delta to the southwest region, filling the gap in Liuzhou and even the entire Guizhong region where there is no straight railway leading eastward into the Guangdong Pearl River Delta, ending the history of Wuxuan County, Xiangzhou County, and some cities and counties in northwest Guangdong without railway access. With the comprehensive promotion of the construction of the second line of the Guizhou Guangxi Railway, the new Guizhou Guangxi Railway will be connected to the Liuzhou Guangzhou Railway with Liuzhou as the hub, becoming the most convenient freight main channel for Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou to directly connect to the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area through Liuzhou.
