On March 11, 2026, the Qiangsheng Tunnel of Section 4 in front of the Hunan section of the Changgan High speed Railway officially entered construction, marking a new milestone in the project construction. As a key component of the national eight vertical and eight horizontal high-speed railway network, the Changgan High speed Railway starts from Changsha in the west, passes through Pingxiang and Ji'an in Jiangxi, and reaches Ganzhou. The total length of the main line is 429.5 kilometers, with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Since the construction of the Hunan section began in July 2025, various projects have been steadily advancing.

The main line of the Hunan section of the Changgan High speed Railway is 131.886 kilometers long, with dense bridges and tunnels, making construction difficult. The entire line has 97 large and medium bridges and 41 tunnels, with a bridge tunnel ratio of up to 87.9%. The Sujia'an Tunnel is the longest tunnel in the section, with a maximum burial depth of 125 meters. It requires passing through facilities such as highways, residential houses, and fireworks factories, as well as complex geological conditions such as faults and abundant water. The construction conditions are extremely harsh.

In the project construction, China Railway 11th Bureau vigorously promotes mechanized and intelligent construction, invests in intelligent equipment such as fully computerized three arm rock drilling rigs, and constructs a mechanized operation system for the entire tunnel process. The entire process is controllable through the intelligent construction center and information management system. In the intelligent steel structure factory, the automated production line greatly improves efficiency, and only 10 people are needed to complete the task of producing 20 tons of steel components per day in a 12 acre factory building. The intelligent mixing station relies on the Internet of Things, big data, and AI technology to achieve automatic concrete proportioning, mixing, and intelligent warning, ensuring construction quality and safety. The bridge project is accelerating synchronously. The construction of the main pier pile foundation of Liuyang River Extra Large Bridge has been completed, and the operation of the water bearing platform is about to begin. The construction unit is seizing the opportunity of clear weather and striving to complete the key nodes before the flood season in April, creating conditions for subsequent construction. The total construction period of the Changgan high-speed railway is 5 years, and it is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in July 2030. After its opening, the running time of trains from Changsha to Ganzhou will be reduced from the current about 4 hours to 1.5 hours, which will greatly promote the interconnection and economic and social development of the Hunan Jiangxi Fujian region.Editor/Gong Ziwei
