On March 18, 2026, the Tianshan Gas Field, located in the southern edge of the Junggar Basin, Xinjiang, received a good report. The cumulative production of industrial natural gas in this gas field exceeded 1 billion cubic meters. This milestone marks a significant breakthrough in the development technology of ultra deep and ultra-high pressure complex gas reservoirs in China, adding new confidence to ensuring national energy security.
The Tianshan gas field was put into development in February 2021, with a burial depth of over 7000 meters and a formation pressure coefficient exceeding 2.0. It is a typical ultra deep and ultra high pressure detrital condensate gas field.

Faced with the challenges of complex geological structures, tight reservoirs, and lack of mature experience to draw on, China has adopted an integrated exploration and development model, rapidly put into operation a batch of high-yield gas wells such as Hutan 1 and Tianwan 1, and synchronously put into operation supporting facilities such as liquefied natural gas plants and natural gas processing stations, forming a complete production and processing system. It is expected that by 2026, 8 new gas wells will be put into operation in the gas field, doubling the daily gas production to 3.4 million cubic meters, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent large-scale production of natural gas.Editor/Gao Xue
