  • This province, once considered a railway blind spot, is attempting to break through with an unprecedented infrastructure breakthrough
  • When the travel time from Chongqing to Xiamen is compressed from 13 hours to 7 hours, Fujian is rewriting the economic geography of China's southeast coast with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour

Once, Fujian Railway was the appendix and terminus of the national road network; Now, an unprecedented counterattack is unfolding on the land of Bamin. From the isolated opening of the Yingxia Railway in 1957 to the stunning glimpse of the Hefei Fuzhou High speed Railway in 2015, it took Fujian nearly 60 years to barely catch up with the national pace. But the real outbreak occurred during the 15th Five Year Plan period: with the comprehensive deployment of six major high-speed rail projects, this railway depression along the southeast coast is filling its gaps at an astonishing speed, and is rapidly advancing towards its position as a hub for high-speed rail connections between cities and cities, as well as major speed increases outside the province.

Say goodbye to single line low-speed

For a long time, although Fujian has 5 provincial transportation routes, except for the Hefei Fuzhou high-speed railway, most of them are low standard lines with a speed of 200-250 kilometers per hour. To go to the provincial capital of a neighboring province, one often needs to detour or slow down, and there may even be an awkward situation where Fuzhou to Nanchang is slower than going to the neighboring province. The dilemma of inconsistent standards and single track operation has trapped Fujian at the edge of the road network for a long time. The outline of the 15th Five Year Plan is a complete departure - no longer satisfied with having it or not, but pursuing fast or not, directly targeting the high standard backbone network with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

Three lines in parallel to break the deadlock

At the current construction site, the roar of machines has become the norm. The Zhangshan, Wenfu, and Wumei high-speed railways are reshaping the backbone of Fujian. As a key link in the national coastal corridor, the Zhangshan and Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railways will closely connect Fujian with the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta. Especially after the completion of the Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railway in 2030, it is expected to completely end the history of no 350 kilometer high-speed railway from Fuzhou to Wenzhou. The third channel connecting Guangdong, the Wumei High speed Railway, with a speed of 250 kilometers per hour, can effectively alleviate the freight pressure on existing lines. These three arrows fired together will expand Fujian's outbound channels to eight between 2028 and 2030.

11 channels leading to the river and the sea

The bigger game is still ahead. Fujian divides railway projects into three tiers: construction, research, and planning, and implements precise policies. Efforts will be made to commence construction of the Wenwuji Railway in the middle and later stages of the 15th Five Year Plan period; The Changfu Xiamen and Ganlong Xiamen high-speed railways have entered deep research. Once completed, the travel time from Fuzhou to Nanchang will be reduced to within 2 hours, and the travel time from Chongqing to Xiamen will be sharply reduced from 13 hours to 7 hours; The Qunan Three High Speed Railway serves as a reserve force, targeting the shortcut from Hangzhou to Shenzhen. In the future, with the full opening of these 11 major outbound channels, Fujian will no longer be the endpoint of the road network, but a golden hub connecting the Yangtze River Delta with Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Infrastructure, transportation, and railways

Fujian is redefining geographical coordinates with iron and steel when the roar of high-speed railway penetrates Wuyi Mountain and Dai Yunshan Mountain. This is not only an increase in speed, but also a reshuffle of the regional economic pattern. From the end of the road network to the transportation hub, Fujian is stepping on the accelerator at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour, fully entering the fast lane of high-quality development.Editor/Cheng Liting
