On the afternoon of March 23, 2026, His Excellency Wu Zuowenmin, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the People's Republic of China, attended the 10th anniversary commemoration of the Lancang Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meeting held at the St. Regis Hotel in Beijing. The event was chaired by Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Wang Yi stated in his opening speech that the Lancang Mekong River will bring the six countries it flows through closer together, promoting mutual benefit, collective strength, and unity among regional countries. He pointed out that the trade volume between China and Mekong countries has exceeded 500 billion US dollars, an increase of over 150% in the past decade.

He emphasized that the rapid development of the Lancang Mekong Cooperation cannot be separated from three basic principles: first, building a community of shared future with good neighborliness, friendship, and closeness as one family; Secondly, we must adhere to the development orientation centered on the people; The third is to encourage innovation. China will continue to uphold the principles of friendly, mutually beneficial, and inclusive neighborly diplomacy.
The current rotating chair of the Lancang Mekong Cooperation, Thai Ambassador to China Chachai Vilyavijekul, stated that as of now, the Lancang Mekong Cooperation Special Fund has supported the implementation of nearly 1000 projects. Over the past decade, the cooperation among the member states of the Lancang Mekong Cooperation has continued to deepen and develop, demonstrating the goal of the Lancang Mekong Cooperation to jointly address regional challenges.
During the event, Chen Bo, President of the China Academy of International Studies, presented research reports and insights on jointly building a community of shared future for the Lancang Mekong countries, while Liu Yue, Deputy Director of the Institute of International Economic Research of the National Development and Reform Commission of China, presented an overall plan for the connectivity, common development, and deep integration of the Lancang Mekong region in the next decade. Also in attendance at the event were Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, the ambassadors and deputy heads of embassies of the five Mekong countries in China, representatives from ASEAN countries, senior officials from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese experts and scholars, and invited guests.
