From March 22 to 25, 2026 local time, at the invitation of Kenyan Vice President Jindiki, Vice President Han Zheng visited Kenya and met with Kenyan President Ruto in Nairobi to exchange ideas with Vice President Jindiki. He also attended the Kenya Zero Tariff Export of Chinese Goods Exhibition and China Kenya Business Forum and delivered a speech.
Han Zheng stated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kenya more than 60 years ago, both sides have always adhered to mutual respect, equal treatment, and mutual benefit, and bilateral relations have continuously reached new heights. China is willing to work with Kenya to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and the outcomes of the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation, inject new momentum into China Kenya cooperation, and play a leading and exemplary role in building an all-weather China Africa community of common destiny for a new era.
Han Zheng stated that this year marks the beginning of China's 15th Five Year Plan, and China will further expand its high-level opening-up to the outside world, sharing high-quality development opportunities with African countries including Kenya. Both China and Kenya need to build high-level political mutual trust and solidify the foundation of a community with a shared future in the new era. Thank you to Kenya for providing strong support on issues related to China's core interests, such as Taiwan. China will continue to firmly support Kenya in safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests. Both sides should expand high-quality and pragmatic cooperation, make good use of the dividends of China's comprehensive implementation of zero tariff measures on 53 African countries with diplomatic relations since May 1st, and accelerate the pace of China Kenya joint modernization. China appreciates Kenya's active support for China's major ideas and initiatives, and is willing to strengthen high-level strategic cooperation with Kenya to jointly promote the development of the international order towards a more just and reasonable direction.
After the meeting, both sides jointly attended the signing ceremony of relevant cooperation documents and text exchange.
During the exchange with Jindiki, Han Zheng expressed that China supports Kenya in pursuing a development path that is in line with its own national conditions, and welcomes Kenya to make good use of the trade facilitation measures provided by China and share the development opportunities brought by the Chinese market.
Jindiki said that Kenya is willing to fully utilize the benefits brought by the zero tariff policy and build itself as a gateway for China to the African market.
When attending the Kenya Enjoy Zero Tariff Export of Chinese Goods Exhibition and China Kenya Business Forum, Han Zheng stated that the current global political and economic landscape has undergone profound and complex changes, and the challenges faced by countries in development and free trade have significantly increased. Strengthening cooperation is more urgent and requires foresight. China is willing to consolidate strategic mutual trust with African countries, including Kenya, and be a fellow traveler on the path of modernization; Deepen economic and trade cooperation, become true friends for mutual benefit and win-win results; Maintain multilateralism and become builders of an open world economy. The outline of China's 15th Five Year Plan outlines a development blueprint for the next five years. China will unwaveringly expand high-level opening up to the outside world, better connect international circulation, and share opportunities and mutual achievements with countries including Kenya in the process of open development.
During his visit to Kenya, Han Zheng collectively met with the Director General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Ban Gula, and other heads of UN agencies in Kenya. He expressed that China will always be a trusted partner of the UN and is willing to work together with UN agencies to uphold the authority and status of the UN, promote the construction of a more just and reasonable global governance system, and contribute greater strength to world peace, stability, prosperity, and development.
Han Zheng also inspected the dispatch center of the Mombasa Nairobi Railway and attended the departure ceremony of the first freight train for Kenya's zero tariff export of Chinese goods.
