Pre feasibility study review meeting held, preliminary work initiated
On March 26, 2026, the review meeting for the pre feasibility study report of the Bao E Yu high-speed railway was successfully held, marking the official start of the preliminary work for the Bao E Yu high-speed railway project.
The meeting put forward clear requirements that the design unit should optimize the route plan and improve the content of the project pre feasibility study report in accordance with the review opinions; The construction unit should accelerate the handling of preliminary procedures such as land pre-approval, planning and site selection, and social stability risk assessment; Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Shaanxi Province should strengthen cross regional and cross departmental coordination and linkage, and the United Nations Railway Group should jointly promote the early approval of project proposals.
The project is an important section of the national high-speed railway corridor
The Baotou Eyu High speed Railway is an important component of the national eight vertical and eight horizontal high-speed railway Baoyinhai Channel. The line runs from Baotou through Ordos to Yulin, with a total length of 277 kilometers. The western extension of the high-speed railway in the current channel has been opened, and the Yanyu high-speed railway is under construction. The Bao'eyu high-speed railway is the only section of the channel that has not been approved, and it is also a key section to fill the gaps. After the completion of the project, a cross shaped longitudinal high-speed railway channel in the Yellow River Basin will be opened up, and the main framework of the intercity network of the Hohhot Baotou Eyu urban agglomeration will be constructed. This will significantly shorten the travel time of multiple cities along the route, comprehensively improve the convenience and comfort of people's travel, and provide strong support for the development of Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi and the construction of a strong transportation country.

This project is an important part of the Baotou West High speed Railway, starting from Baotou East Station of the Beijing Baotou High speed Railway in the north and connecting with the Yanyu High speed Railway at Yulin South Station in the south, with a total length of 277.2 kilometers. The mileage of the Mongolian and Shaanxi sections is 179.5 kilometers and 97.7 kilometers respectively, with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour and a bridge tunnel ratio of 76.7%. Six stations are planned to be built along the entire line, and the project will merge the Bao'e and E'yu sections, requiring a new approval process. The pre feasibility study of the Bao'e section has been completed, and the feasibility study and revision draft of the E'yu section has been prepared. After the full line is opened to traffic, travel time is significantly reduced
The West Extension High speed Railway has been opened to traffic, and the Yanyu High speed Railway is planned to be completed and opened to traffic in 2028. After the completion of the entire Baotou to Xi'an high-speed railway, the operating time of the high-speed railway will only be about 3.5 hours, which is about 6 hours shorter than that of conventional railways. This will greatly strengthen regional transportation connectivity and help promote high-quality economic and social development along the line.Editor/Gong Ziwei
