VinEnergo has invested $8 billion to build a wind power cluster with a total capacity of 3000 megawatts in the province of Calais. This is not only its largest domestic investment, but also an important milestone in its global 100 gigawatt green ambition.

In the province of Gia Lai in the western region of Vietnam, a huge potential 'Valley of the Wind' is about to be awakened. On March 28, 2026, a signing ceremony brought unprecedented development opportunities here - Vietnamese energy giant VinEnergo signed an agreement with Gia Lai Province to jointly research and develop a large-scale wind power integrated project with a total investment of up to 8 billion US dollars (approximately 21 trillion Vietnamese dong). This is not only one of the huge investments received in the history of the province, but also heralds the rise of a future clean energy hub.

Activate a green future for a province

According to the agreement, this wind power complex will be divided into two steps. The first phase of the project is expected to have an installed capacity of approximately 2000 megawatts, which will be expanded to a total of approximately 3000 megawatts in the second phase. For the province of Calais, the significance of this investment goes far beyond electricity itself. After the completion of the project, it will not only form a strong clean energy production base, providing solid support for Vietnam's national energy security, but also strongly promote the transformation and upgrading of the local social economy through infrastructure construction, employment creation, and industrial linkage, truly transforming green resources into development dividends.

VinEnergo's Vietnam New Energy Map

This move to Jialai is a crucial step for VinEnergo to expand its renewable energy empire strategy and reflects the firm commitment of its parent company Vingroup to supporting local green transformation. In fact, VinEnergo has already fully deployed its green layout in Vietnam. Its project list includes Ky Anh wind farm (400 MW) and ecological wind Ky Anh project (498 MW) in Ha Tinh Province, as well as Dien Bien 1 solar power station (300 MW) in Dien Bien Province and Ban Chat 1 and 2 floating solar power stations (250 MW and 300 MW respectively) in Laizhou Province. These projects together form VinEnergo's diversified renewable energy matrix in Vietnam, accumulating valuable experience and technical confidence for the development of this mega project.

The Baijiwa Global Plan has surfaced

However, VinEnergo's vision has long transcended national borders. With the ambition to expand its global business, the company has announced a more ambitious plan: to develop up to 100 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in key international markets such as North America, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and Southeast Asia over the next three years, while exploring potential opportunities in Central Asia and Africa. Its global expansion has shown initial results, and preliminary cooperation agreements have been reached with relevant institutions in Denmark, Sweden, and the Philippines for international projects with a total capacity of 10 gigawatts. The Jialai project is like a solid cornerstone of its global blueprint, consolidating its local base and demonstrating its strength in operating super large and complex energy projects, injecting strong momentum into its "sailing" in the global green energy market.Editor/Yang Meiling
