The national 14th Five Year Plan for electricity has reached a critical conclusion. Recently, the Shaanxi Henan ± 800 kV high-voltage direct current transmission project has been officially approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. As the last piece of the puzzle for the Sanjiaoji UHV project, the total investment of the project is 19 billion yuan, and it is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2028. It will become a super artery connecting the Northwest Energy Base and the Central China Load Center.

Mix and match technology to solve consumption problems

The project starts in Yulin, Shaanxi and ends in Kaifeng, Henan, passing through Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Henan provinces. The total length of the line is 728 kilometers, with a transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts. The technical solution is highly attractive: the sending end converter station adopts conventional DC technology, while the receiving end converter station innovatively adopts flexible DC technology. This conventional and flexible hybrid mode is still rare in long-distance transmission, aiming to maximize the stability of the power grid and the ability to absorb new energy.

The core mission of engineering is to solve the structural contradiction between resources in the west and loads in the east. The Shaanbei region boasts abundant coal and scenic resources, serving as the cornerstone of national energy security; As a major agricultural and industrial province, Henan's power shortage continues to widen. After the project is put into operation, it can transmit over 36 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to Henan every year, which not only converts the wind and solar coal in northern Shaanxi into green electricity, but also significantly improves the supply guarantee capacity of Henan's power grid and the proportion of green electricity consumption.
