Despite the chilly spring weather, the construction site of the Zemon Passenger Railway in Belgrade was bustling with activity. On March 28, 2026, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, an "old friend" of China Electric Power Construction, reappeared at the construction site. Amidst the roar of the machine, he carefully inquired about the progress of the steel rail laying, his face unable to conceal his satisfaction with the project's progress. For Serbia, this railway connecting the airport and the Expo Park is not only a transportation artery, but also a threshold for the country to move towards modernization.
Serbia is entering the largest infrastructure cycle in modern history, "Vucic emphasized on site. In the coming years, the country will make every effort to promote the construction of highways and railway networks. And the Zemun Railway is the first star to light up on this blueprint.
18.3-kilometer Expo Express Line
The Zemun Passenger Railway is not an ordinary railway track, it is a "Welcome Avenue" tailored by Serbia for the 2027 Belgrade World Expo. The project has a total length of approximately 18.3 kilometers and is designed as a dual track electrified line with a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. After completion, it will seamlessly connect the four key nodes of Zemun Bole, Nikola Tesla Airport, Sulchin Expo Park, and National Stadium.
This means that in the future, after arriving at the airport, tourists will only need about 30 minutes to directly reach the World Expo venue or the city center, completely bidding farewell to congestion. Vucic specifically pointed out that this is the first time in Belgrade's history that the airport has been directly connected to the city center by railway, which is of milestone significance for enhancing the country's image and regional connectivity level.

Serbia Puzzle of China Power Construction Corporation
The Zemun Railway is just a microcosm of China Electric Power Construction's deep cultivation in Serbia. As the largest Chinese contractor in the country, PowerChina has woven a three-dimensional network covering transportation, energy, and sports here:
Landmark project: Undertaking the construction of the Serbian National Football Stadium and Exhibition Center project group, which will become a new landmark in Belgrade in the future.
Green Energy: Construct the largest single installed capacity Saraolch photovoltaic project in the country (with an annual power generation of over 16 million kWh), and participate in the construction of the largest energy project, the KOSTOLAC-B power station phase II project.
Urban artery: undertakes key transportation projects such as the Belgrade Metro (the country's first subway project) and the Ring Road.
From the power plants that light up thousands of homes to the highways that clear the city's veins, China Electric Power Construction has become an indispensable "iron partner" for Serbia's infrastructure through more than ten years of localized cultivation.

The ironclad friendship behind the infrastructure frenzy
The affirmation of Wu Qiqi's inspection this time is not only a recognition of the engineering quality, but also an endorsement of the cooperation model between China and Serbia. In Serbia's 2030 development strategy, railway modernization is listed as a top priority, with plans to build and renovate over 1200 kilometers of railways by 2035.
China Power Construction and other Chinese funded enterprises are deeply involved in this infrastructure frenzy with their excellent technology and efficient performance capabilities. From the acceleration of the Hungary Serbia Railway to the completion of the Zemun Express Line, China Serbia cooperation has evolved from a simple project construction to a strategic synergy in jointly drawing up the national development blueprint. As Vu č i ć said, this cooperation has profound implications for the future development of Serbia.
As the steel rails of the Zemun Railway extend inch by inch, the countdown to the Belgrade World Expo is also ticking. For the Serbian people, this railway brings not only the convenience of watching the World Expo, but also a revolution in daily travel. For China Electric Power Construction, the sweat shed on the banks of the Sava River is pouring the most solid foundation of China Serbia friendship.Editor/Yang Meiling
