In 2026, during the intense competition for AI computing power in Europe, Tydal Data Center AS, a subsidiary of Bitdeer Technologies Group, officially launched the largest AI data center upgrade plan in Norwegian history. The total installed capacity of this project is 180MW, which will not only become one of the largest AI computing power bases in Europe, but also attract attention for adopting NVIDIA's latest Vera Rubin architecture.

Existing facilities modified AI super factory

Unlike building from scratch, TDC has chosen to deeply renovate the existing facilities located in Tydal, Trenderlag County, which significantly improves capital efficiency. TDC has signed a key agreement with Norwegian local contractor Data Center Installations AS (DCI, subsidiary of Sparc Group). DCI will leverage its professional experience in critical infrastructure to construct according to NVIDIA reference design standards, ensuring high cost and schedule control of the project. TDC co-founder Haakon Bryhni stated that this move is Bitdeer's core strategy to respond to the global AI computing power explosion, aiming to quickly transform existing assets into future oriented AI deployment platforms.

Benchmarking against Stargate's computing giant

The technical specifications of this project are extremely robust, fully compatible with NVIDIA's Vera Rubin architecture designed specifically for the next generation of AI, mainly aimed at high-intensity AI model training and inference leasing needs. The installed capacity of 180MW makes it a rare hundred megawatt level single data center in Europe. Although the Stargate Norway project plans for a larger capacity of 520MW, the Bitdeer project is expected to be completed first in December 2026, giving it a clear advantage of being a first mover with a "time difference".

The combination of Nordic cold data and hot computing power

As a giant headquartered in Singapore with business spanning across Asia, Bitdeer's choice of Norway is not accidental. The abundant renewable energy and cold climate in the Tydal region provide a natural "cooling pool" and green energy guarantee for high-energy AI computing power.Editor/Cheng Liting
