The sea breeze brushes over the coastline of Kemen Port in Lianjiang, blowing the blades of offshore wind power and opening a new chapter in the development of local green energy. In the spring of 2026, a major project carrying the dream of zero carbon will reach a critical milestone on this land that is born into the sea.

Formal project filing

On April 13, 2026, the green hydrogen and CCUS carbon capture synthetic green methanol project of China Resources Power in Guanban Town, Lianjiang County was successfully registered with the Fujian Provincial Development and Reform Commission. This means that, following the Anhui Suixi Biomass Green Methanol Project, China Resources Power's second large-scale integrated green methanol project located along the southeast coast has officially entered the rapid implementation stage.

This project is an important component of the major project of "green electricity hydrogen production coupled with CCUS green methanol integration" in Lianjiang Kemen Park. According to the filing information and preliminary planning, this integrated project will rely on the Kemen Park of Lianjiang Economic Development Zone to create a zero carbon demonstration industrial park. The core of the project is to combine cutting-edge technologies and utilize green energy such as offshore wind power to electrolyze water for hydrogen production, and then combine it with CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) technology to synthesize green methanol from captured carbon dioxide and green hydrogen. This is not only a high-end new energy and new material project, but also an effective way to feed back industrial energy consumption, alleviate the pressure of new energy consumption, help key industries achieve carbon reduction, and embark on a deep decarbonization path.

Key layout of Lianjiang

The projects approved for filing this time are the core projects of the key new energy project matrix signed by Lianjiang County in 2026. On February 28th of this year, Lianjiang County held the 2026 "Five Chain Integration" Matchmaking Conference and Investment Promotion Conference, focusing on the deep integration of innovation chain, industry chain, capital chain, talent chain, and information chain. 34 projects were signed with a total investment of over 19.1 billion yuan. Among them, in the special session of new energy and new materials projects, the green electricity hydrogen production coupled with CCUS green methanol integration project in Lianjiang Kemen Park was officially signed and implemented. At the same time, projects such as "port+power plant+carbonization" integrated biomass energy demonstration were also signed. These projects will help Lianjiang seize the future energy track and cultivate new quality productivity.

As for why they chose to deeply cultivate Lianjiang, Gao Yongxiang, the representative of the contracted project and deputy general manager of China Resources Power Fujian Company, said in an interview that Lianjiang has unique marine resources, superior location advantages, and the determination to seek strength from the sea. It has become the core area for China Resources Power to deploy new energy and deeply cultivate the marine economy in Fujian. From the landing and operation of a 700 MW offshore wind power project in Lianjiang to the successful signing of the Daguanban Reclamation Area Fishery Photovoltaic Complementary Project, China Resources Power has rooted itself in Lianjiang. It not only sees the development potential here, but is also moved by the good atmosphere of local heavy business, pro business, safe business, and wealthy businessmen, as well as the firm determination to create a first-class business environment.

National strategic layout

It is worth mentioning that the Lianjiang project is another key project of China Resources Power's layout in the national green methanol track. Prior to this, China Resources Power had launched the Anhui Suixi Wind and Solar New Energy to Green Methanol Integrated Demonstration Project in inland areas, which was also the first new energy and green chemical coupling project within China Resources Group. The group attaches great importance to this project and has conducted in-depth research and analysis on biomass gasification and biogas routes, striving to find a technically reliable and operationally stable process route. If the Suixi project focuses on the combination of biomass and new energy, then the Lianjiang project focuses on the cutting-edge integration of green hydrogen production and CCUS carbon capture and utilization. The two projects have been promoted successively, demonstrating China Resources Power's parallel layout of diversified technology routes in the field of green methanol.

From a macro strategic perspective, the accelerated implementation of the green methanol project is highly aligned with the overall transformation direction of China Resources Power. According to the 2026 development strategy plan released by China Resources Power, the company plans to add 5.45GW of wind and photovoltaic grid connected installed capacity throughout the year, and continue to increase the proportion of clean energy installed capacity. At the same time, the company will concentrate resources on tackling coastal offshore wind power bases, as well as high-quality projects in high consumption areas in the central and eastern regions and southern regions, relying on the industrial synergy advantages of China Resources Group, and innovating integrated development models. The promotion of the Lianjiang project is a concrete practice of China Resources Power extending its advantages in new energy power to the downstream of green chemical industry, and creating a new driving force for performance growth through the coupling innovation of "new energy+green chemical industry". With the approval of the green methanol project in Guanban Town, Lianjiang, China Resources Power further consolidates its zero carbon energy layout in Fujian Province. From Lianjiang Kemen Industrial Park to Daguanban Reclamation Area, from offshore 700 MW wind farms to cutting-edge chemical projects coupling green hydrogen production and CCUS, China Resources Power is working together with Lianjiang County to write a new chapter in marine economy and green energy under the "dual carbon" goal.Editor/Gong Ziwei
