On April 13, 2026, a memorandum of understanding on investment cooperation was officially signed at the Presidential Palace of the United Arab Emirates, witnessed by high-level officials from China and the UAE. Almost at the same time, thousands of kilometers away on the mainland of the United Arab Emirates, a fourth federal transportation corridor project costing 6 billion dirhams quietly began. When the institutional framework is synchronized with the implementation of steel and cement, China Arab cooperation has moved from paper to infrastructure.

Six billion dirhams reshape the road network

This traffic artery with a total length of about 68 kilometers is planned to have six to eight lanes in both directions, with ten key hubs and four overpasses along the route. The project aims to address the traffic bottlenecks between various emirates, alleviate the pressure on the existing highway network, and push logistics transportation efficiency to a new level. The UAE government positions it as another national backbone after the existing highway system, and the preliminary route plan has been reviewed multiple times with local governments to ensure seamless integration with regional development plans.

The framework of the locking system in the China Arab States Memorandum of Understanding

The document signed between the National Development and Reform Commission and the UAE Ministry of Investment clearly lists transportation and infrastructure as key areas of cooperation. Both parties will build a more efficient cooperation platform to promote investment facilitation and project information sharing. The United Arab Emirates is currently in a period of accelerated urbanization, with a continuous influx of population into core cities such as Dubai and Sharjah. The demand for cross-border commuting and freight channels is showing a rigid growth, and China's infrastructure production capacity intersects with the capital needs of the UAE. Bus rapid transit synchronously weaves capillaries

In addition to the main roads, the United Arab Emirates is also promoting a plan to upgrade public transportation across the country during the same period. Plan to add ten new bus routes and introduce a rapid transit system and dedicated channels to connect with the existing subway network. The project of connecting Ajman to the federal road network is also underway, and more alternative routes will be provided in the future. From highways to bus lanes, the United Arab Emirates is systematically strengthening the national transportation network, and the cooperation between China and Arab countries in infrastructure coincides with this window of opportunity.Editor/Gao Xue
