In the current intense global competition for AI computing power, Singapore is becoming a battleground for digital infrastructure. The business update for the first quarter of 2026 released by Keppel yesterday is like a heavyweight signal bomb: this asset management giant not only wants to rebuild an AI ready ultra large scale data center locally, but also extends its tentacles to the ocean and officially launches the construction of floating data centers. A computing power enclosure movement about "land+ocean" is being initiated by Keppel.

Jinding Road has another drop, forming a REIT closed-loop system

Keppel's ambition is clearly written on the map of King Ding Road in Singapore. In mid-2026, the third building of the park, Keppel Data Center Keppel DC SGP 9, will break ground. This is not only the joint hunting ground of Keppel Data Center Fund II and III, but also the future 'reserve granary' of Keppel DC REIT. According to the plan, after the stable operation of KDC SGP 9, it will be injected into Keppel DC REIT to achieve a perfect capital loop.

This source of gas comes from a 25 year lease guarantee. At the end of 2025, relevant parties have been granted permission to extend the lease of Jinding Road Park for 10 years, until July 15, 2050. This extension agreement eliminates concerns for the long-term operation of KDC SGP 9 and gives Keppel more bargaining power when facing AI giant clients.

Floating data centers and fiber optic infrastructure are advancing simultaneously

Keppel's gaze was not limited to land. The long planned floating data center project has officially started construction, marking Keppel's advantage in ocean computing infrastructure. At the same time, the blood vessels connecting computing power nodes are also accelerating their installation - the construction of the Bifrost cable system has entered a sprint phase. Keppel revealed that they are currently in deep negotiations with potential customers regarding the remaining two pairs of optical fibers in the system, with the aim of signing a contract in the first half of 2026. From vertical cultivation in terrestrial parks, to horizontal expansion of offshore platforms, and to the underlying interconnection of fiber optic networks, Keppel is building a three-dimensional computing ecosystem. In today's exponential explosion of AI demand, Keppel has proven through practical actions that whoever can provide more stable and forward-looking infrastructure will have the say in the digital economy era. This is not only a victory for Keppel, but also a reconfirmation of Singapore's position as a global digital hub.Editor/Cheng Liting
