In order to enhance local power generation capacity and reduce energy import dependence, the Jalalabad region of Kyrgyzstan has officially started construction of a small hydropower station and a photovoltaic power station.
project implementation
On April 28, 2026, the project held a groundbreaking ceremony, attended by local presidential envoys, former prime ministers, project research leaders, and representatives from China Machinery Industry Group. The project includes two energy facilities, a 5-megawatt small hydropower station with an annual power generation of approximately 20 million kilowatt hours, and a 1-megawatt photovoltaic power station with an annual power generation of approximately 1.6 million kilowatt hours.

Value highlighting
The project adopts a public-private partnership model to promote construction, with a total investment of 259.8 million US dollars. After the project is put into operation, it can alleviate the local power shortage and reduce energy imports. At the same time, it can provide over a hundred job opportunities and irrigation support for more than a thousand hectares of dry land. Keywords: Kyrgyzstan, hydropower station
Kyrgyzstan's electricity demand continues to rise, and the existing power generation capacity is limited, accelerating the layout of small-scale hydropower development. Currently, 48 small hydropower stations with a total installed capacity of about 180 megawatts have been put into operation nationwide, and another 50 hydropower stations are under construction, which will further strengthen the country's ability to independently guarantee energy.Editor/Gong Ziwei
