In order to enhance local power generation capacity and reduce energy import dependence, the Jalalabad region of Kyrgyzstan has officially started construction of a small hydropower station and a photovoltaic power station.

On April 28, 2026, the project held a groundbreaking ceremony, attended by local presidential envoys, former prime ministers, project research leaders, and representatives from China Machinery Industry Group. The project includes two energy facilities, a 5-megawatt small hydropower station with an annual power generation of approximately 20 million kilowatt hours, and a 1-megawatt photovoltaic power station with an annual power generation of approximately 1.6 million kilowatt hours.

The project adopts a public-private partnership model to promote construction, with a total investment of 259.8 million US dollars. After the project is put into operation, it can alleviate the local power shortage and reduce energy imports.
