At the Turkmenistan-China Business Forum held recently in Ashgabat, Puyang Shengyuan Petrochemical (Group) Co., Ltd. of China officially proposed a large-scale natural gas processing project totaling approximately US$9 billion. This project aims to help Turkmenistan enhance its natural gas resource processing capabilities and promote the extension of its industrial chain towards higher value-added sectors.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth globally in natural gas reserves, but currently relies primarily on primary product exports, indicating significant potential for industrial utilization and local conversion. Leveraging its technological advantages in the petrochemical field, Puyang Shengyuan is precisely addressing this demand by planning and constructing a comprehensive gas processing complex encompassing three major production chains: an investment of US$6.3 billion to build facilities for an annual production capacity of 1.8 million tons of methanol and downstream products; US$600 million to establish a production line for 1 million tons of synthetic ammonia and 1.8 million tons of urea annually, serving agricultural needs; and US$1.1 billion to create a high-value petroleum product line, producing 320,000 tons of naphtha and 620,000 tons of diesel annually. Upon completion, the project will not only enhance the economic benefits of Turkmenistan's natural gas resources but also create numerous jobs and drive the development of the petrochemical, agricultural, and related supporting industries.
