Recently, the Karaganda 500MW wind storage project jointly invested and developed by China Energy Engineering Corporation and Kazakhstan Samruk Energy Company has officially started construction. As a landmark project under the framework of renewable energy cooperation between the governments of China and Kazakhstan, this project is also another major new energy project successfully implemented by China Energy Engineering Corporation in Kazakhstan, following the Saulan Solar Energy Storage Project.

Basic Overview of the Project
The project is located in Osakarov District, Karaganda Oblast, Kazakhstan, about 150 kilometers away from the capital Astana. It covers an area of approximately 8000 hectares and has a total investment of approximately 573 million US dollars. The project adopts an integrated design mode of "wind power+energy storage". In addition to building a 500MW wind power installed capacity, a 150MW/300MWh energy storage system is also built as a supporting facility. After the project is completed and put into operation, it can supply over 1.7 billion kilowatt hours of green electricity annually, which is equivalent to saving about 480 million cubic meters of natural gas or reducing over 8.5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. It can effectively fill the power gap in northern Kazakhstan and provide strong support for local industrial development and energy structure transformation and upgrading.
China Kazakhstan Joint Promotion of Cooperation
At the commencement ceremony of the project, senior executives of both China and Kazakhstan said that the project is an important symbol of modern energy development, and they look forward to taking this cooperation as an opportunity to deepen green energy cooperation under the the Belt and Road framework and work together to build it into a benchmark demonstration project for China Kazakhstan new energy cooperation. From the export of wind turbines by Chinese enterprises to the full chain of "investment+construction+operation" going global, Chinese companies' new energy layout in Kazakhstan has broken through the traditional model of single project contracting. The successful implementation of such large-scale wind storage joint venture projects not only demonstrates China's export strength in new energy technology, but also strengthens the interest connection between China and international energy partners through green electricity as a link.Editor/Gong Ziwei
