On May 15, 2026, at the south end of Longxue Island, Nansha Port District, Guangzhou Port, construction ships and construction machinery started to roar at the same time. The fifth phase of the Nansha Port Area, a major national project with a total investment of 14.447 billion yuan, has officially started construction. One of the 102 major projects in the 14th Five Year Plan of this country will inject strong momentum into the construction of a world-class port cluster in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.

Four 200000 ton berths
The fifth phase of Nansha will construct four 200000 ton container ship berths, which can berth global ultra large container ships around the clock. Simultaneously constructing 15 berths for 5000 ton barges and 5 berths for workboats, with a total shoreline length exceeding 3800 meters, fully adapting to the development needs of long-distance mainline shipping.

Annual throughput capacity of 6.7 million TEUs
The annual container throughput capacity of the project design reaches 6.7 million TEUs, including 4.6 million TEUs for sea vessel berths and 2.1 million TEUs for barge berths. After completion, the annual container throughput capacity of Nansha Port Area will exceed 35 million TEUs, ranking among the top single port areas in the world and achieving iterative upgrading of operational capabilities.

Full construction will commence in May 2026
Nansha Phase 5 is located at the geometric center of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, with significant strategic importance. The project will efficiently link with the existing 20 container deepwater berths and 4 international general terminal deepwater berths in Nansha Port Area, forming a specialized, large-scale, and integrated world-class terminal cluster in South China, supporting the construction of a modern coastal economic belt in Guangdong.Editor/Gao Xue
