In early summer in Tashkent, the air is filled with the warmth of cooperation. At the just concluded Urumqi China Cross regional Forum, a delegation of entrepreneurs from China and Tashkent municipal officials gathered around Khorgos Port. From the urban drainage system to the future "brand street", a huge urban renewal blueprint is slowly unfolding. As the pen tip falls, the investment agreement worth over 3.5 billion US dollars is officially finalized, and this millennium old city on the Silk Road is about to undergo an unprecedented transformation.

Upgrading urban infrastructure with billions of funds

According to the agreement signed on May 22, 2026, Tashgan will undergo a large-scale infrastructure renovation. The project covers road expansion, BRT bus lanes, and overpass construction, while focusing on optimizing drainage, irrigation, and rainwater discharge systems. It is worth noting that this cooperation adopts the EPC+F model, which does not occupy local budget funds, but establishes new sources of urban income for long-term payments, greatly reducing financial pressure.

Diversified industries landing to empower development

In addition to urban construction, industrial revitalization has become a major focus. The agreement specifies that a huge investment will be made to construct multi story residential buildings in the renovated area of Tashkent, and to introduce production lines for decorative stone and ceramic products, as well as the manufacturing of waste sorting equipment. Among them, the construction of roads and transportation infrastructure alone received 1 billion US dollars in support, and another 150 million US dollars was dedicated to jewelry export trade, fully activating local economic vitality. This series of actions marks that the cooperation between China and Ukraine in building the the Belt and Road has entered the practical stage. Through the deep binding of non resource projects, Tashkent will achieve a double leap in urban function and industrial structure in 2026.Editor/Gao Xue
