The continuous optimization of logistics channels is a key lever for stabilizing and ensuring supply in the supply chain. Recently, COSCO Shipping has been continuously investing in the sea-rail intermodal transportation sector, with its subsidiaries Shanghai Shipping and Dalian Shipping achieving new business breakthroughs simultaneously. With a bidirectional layout in the south and the north, respectively targeting the two core areas of new energy vehicle foreign trade exports and northeast grain transportation for people's livelihood, COSCO Shipping has overcome the pain points of traditional transportation, such as weak timeliness, poor stability, and high costs, through upgraded and optimized full-chain logistics services. This has laid a solid logistics foundation for the development of the real economy and the stable delivery of essential goods.

New cars are going global at a faster pace

COSCO Shipping Lines Shanghai Shipping completed the first new energy vehicle container sea-rail intermodal transport business within its jurisdiction, with the first batch of 150 new energy SUVs successfully shipped to Italy through a new intermodal transport mode. In response to the stringent requirements of high timeliness and high stability for new energy vehicle exports, the company optimized the transportation route and adopted a direct transportation plan from Nanjing Railway to Yangshan Port, replacing the traditional barge transportation mode.

The path optimization has compressed the original 5-day transit connection duration to 3 days, improving the transportation efficiency by over 40%. At the same time, railway transportation is not affected by weather conditions such as rain, snow, and strong winds, completely avoiding the unstable risks of barge transportation and ensuring the precise and timely shipment of the entire vehicle. This channel has successfully established an efficient pathway for domestic new energy vehicles to enter Europe, creating a replicable intermodal transportation model for large-scale industry exports.

Upgrade of grain transportation route

Meanwhile, COSCO Shipping Dalian Container Lines has opened a new sea-rail intermodal transportation route for corn from Yingcheng, Jilin to Yingkou, and simultaneously launched the Yingcheng inland container depot, addressing the shortcomings of logistics nodes in Northeast China's inland areas. Leveraging the hub advantage of Yingkou Port, it has established a fully closed-loop transportation chain that encompasses cargo collection from Yingcheng's production areas, inland railway transfer, and shipment southward from Yingkou Port.

The new channel fully leverages the advantages of sea-rail intermodal transportation, such as large capacity, low loss, and high stability. It is highly compatible with the large-scale and standardized transportation needs of grain, significantly improving container turnover efficiency and reducing the overall transportation cycle of grain.
