Wang Hongzhi, Director of the National Energy Administration, revealed that since the end of February 2026, the global energy market has experienced severe fluctuations, with many countries facing supply shocks such as energy shortages and skyrocketing oil prices. China's energy system has withstood the test throughout the process, with an overall balance of supply and demand and stable prices. Not only has it successfully resisted external risks, but it has also provided important support for stabilizing the global energy market.

At present, China's energy consumption is still in a steady growth range. During the 15th Five Year Plan period, energy security will always be the top priority in all work, and we will not blindly pursue the speed of transformation, but consolidate the supply base based on our own resource endowment.

Parallel implementation of fossil energy supply guarantee and new energy increment

The coal industry will continue to promote the construction of large-scale coal bases in China, stabilizing the most core basic energy sector in the country. Intensify domestic exploration and development efforts in the oil and gas field, stabilize existing oil production, continuously expand the scale of local natural gas supply, and reduce the risks brought by fluctuations in external dependence.

During the 14th Five Year Plan period, 45% of China's energy consumption increment was already provided by non fossil fuels, and this proportion will continue to steadily increase during the 15th Five Year Plan period. We will not follow the old path of sporty carbon reduction, but gradually increase the proportion of green electricity within a safe framework, making the combination of traditional energy as the bottom and new energy as the core source of resilience in China's energy system.Editor/Cheng Liting
