In the Yambor region of southeastern Bulgaria, a 242MWp photovoltaic power station has been operating smoothly. Now, its expansion plan has made substantial progress - the 246MW/512.5MWh battery energy storage system has received up to 30 million euros in financing support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, forming a photovoltaic storage integration base with the existing 65MW/260MWh energy storage system.

The total investment of the project is about 72 million euros, with EBRD financing accounting for 42%. Haichen Energy Storage supplies LFP batteries, and Solarpro Bulgaria is responsible for EPC and project management.
Breakthrough of pure market-oriented energy storage without CfD mechanism
Bulgaria has not yet established long-term contract for difference mechanisms in markets such as Germany and the UK, and commercial banks are cautious about financing pure market-oriented new energy projects that lack long-term income security. EBRD's provision of advanced guarantee project financing aims to fill this gap. In November 2025, EBRD provided 50 million euros in financing for the Tenevo photovoltaic power plant, and this energy storage financing continues its support for Bulgaria's green transformation.
The project shareholders are a joint venture between Renalfa IPP and Eurowind Energy, with the former headquartered in Vienna and jointly established by Renalfa Solarpro Group and RGreen Invest from France. Previously, Renalfa IPP had already put 65MW/260MWh energy storage systems into operation, enabling the company to exceed 1GWh in energy storage capacity. In May 2026, CATL collaborated with Solarpro to launch a 602MWh energy storage project in Burgas, becoming the largest operational energy storage facility in Eastern Europe. The entry of EBRD provides a reference financing sample for energy storage projects in Central and Eastern Europe without price guarantee mechanisms.
