The world's first BBM jointly developed has officially rolled off the production line in Jiangxia, Wuhan. This equipment combines the advantages of two mainstream construction methods, tunnel boring machine and drilling and blasting method. For the first time, excavation and blasting have been integrated on the same equipment, providing a new technical solution for the construction of complex geological long tunnels and filling the gap in the field of integrated construction equipment for complex geological tunnels.

Core innovation: Integrating two construction methods into one

The biggest innovation of the excavator is the successful transplantation of the drilling and blasting method to the excavator, "said the technical personnel of the R&D team. The core breakthrough of the equipment lies in the original hollow cutterhead structure. By cooperating with the hollow cutterhead and the central cutterhead, BBM can freely switch between multiple operation modes such as front blasting and rear excavation, front excavation and rear blasting, and full section excavation, flexibly adapting to various working conditions. In the face of extremely complex geological formations such as high ground stress and large deformation of soft rocks, equipment can carry out advanced grouting reinforcement, pre cracking, emergency support and other pre-treatment operations through the central channel, avoiding safety risks such as collapse and equipment jamming from the source, greatly improving the safety of tunnel construction.

Green and efficient: turning tunnel slag into aggregate, achieving on-site resource utilization

This BBM combines efficiency and greenness. The equipment is equipped with a dedicated rock column crushing device, which can process the rock columns and waste generated during tunnel excavation into building aggregates on site. It not only significantly reduces the transportation of waste slag and lowers construction costs, but also achieves the recycling of tunnel slag, combined with the integrated construction mode of on-site lining, truly realizing the green and low-carbon construction of tunnels. In the future, the equipment will be deployed in the pumped storage power station project for demonstration applications. The research team will rely on on-site measured working condition data to continuously promote the intelligent and refined upgrading of BBM, integrating intelligent identification of surrounding rock, advanced construction forecasting, autonomous intelligent excavation and other systems, and promoting the comprehensive leap of equipment from "usable energy" to "easy use" and "intelligent use".

Supported by multiple original technologies, suitable for various extreme working conditions

Since the inception of the project, the Wuhan Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, where CHINA RAILWAY Science&Industry GROUP CORP. is located, has provided strong support. The smooth offline of BBM completely breaks the inherent design of similar equipment at home and abroad.

This device integrates multiple independently original core technologies, and the entire machine and core components are all independently controllable, comprehensively solving the pain points of tunnel construction. Among them, the retractable edge knife can flexibly adjust the tunnel excavation section, improving the efficiency of construction transition inside the tunnel; The adaptive retractable tail shield is compatible with various pipe specifications to ensure the stability of complex geological support structures; Explosion proof buffer structure offsets the impact force of blasting, providing comprehensive protection for the host and precision components; The dual independent belt system realizes the classification and transportation of slag and aggregates, optimizing the construction process.Editor/Cheng Liting
