On the Qianjiang River, the main stream of the the Pearl River, this huge water conservancy project across the two banks has been running smoothly for more than six years. On September 1, 2026, the cumulative power generation of the Datongxia Water Conservancy Hub officially crossed the 30 billion kilowatt hour mark. This key node project of the national water network is transforming the surging river flow into stable green electricity to support the development of the southern region of China.

Continuous safe operation for over 2300 days

As of September 1st, the Datongxia Water Conservancy Hub has been operating safely for over 2300 consecutive days, with a cumulative power generation exceeding 30 billion kilowatt hours. According to calculations, this portion of green electricity can meet the electricity demand of a city with a population of 2 million for the past two years, supporting a GDP growth of approximately 425 billion yuan, equivalent to saving about 9.9 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 24.75 million tons.

Multiple comprehensive benefits landing

In combination with the latest data of the the Pearl River Basin Water Resources Bulletin in 2026, over 3.8 billion cubic meters of emergency water was supplied to the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area by Datang Gorge in the same period, the navigation level of the Qianjiang River was upgraded from 300 tons to 3000 tons, and the total amount of the accumulated gate clearance was close to 500 million tons. Multiple benefits of flood control, navigation, power generation, and water supply were simultaneously realized. As one of the first major watershed control water conservancy projects in China to complete completion acceptance, the long-term stable operation of Datungxia has also accumulated mature experience for the operation and management of subsequent node projects in China's national water network.
