[China's high-end hydropower steel reaches world leading level] On September 15, 2026, China Baowu Taigang Group announced that 900 MPa ultra-high strength yoke steel was successfully applied to the giant rotor of Zala Hydropower Station in Xizang. The rotor weighs 840 tons and is the core component of the world's largest single unit capacity 500 MW impulse hydroelectric unit. This is the first time in the world that this steel has been used for such units, marking that China's high-end hydropower steel has reached the world's leading level. The R&D team has spent five years tackling multiple material challenges, and currently TISCO has initiated the research and development of 1000 megapascal grade magnetic yoke steel.Editor/Gong Ziwei
