Recently, the Myanmar government signed two power purchase agreements (PPA) to purchase a total of 580 megawatts of electricity from two liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plants.
On June 26, the Sino-Technology Consortium and the power generation company under the Ministry of Electricity and Energy of Myanmar signed two 5-year power purchases for the Danlin Power Plant in southeastern Yangon and the Jiaopiao Power Plant in central Rakhine State protocol.
Myanmar will no longer lose power in the summer of 2020
A statement issued by the company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on July 2 stated that the two power generation projects began operations on June 30, and tariffs and other details regarding the two agreements have not been disclosed. According to Somin, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy of Myanmar, the Myanmar government will pay approximately US$0.12 per kilowatt-hour.
Sinotech Power Group is a joint venture between Hong Kong-listed company Power Group, supported by CITIC Group, and China State-owned Enterprise China National Technology Import and Export Corporation. The consortium won the bid for three emergency LNG power generation projects launched by the Ministry of Electricity and Energy a year ago.
This is the second and third power purchase agreements signed by the Commonwealth and the Myanmar government. The first power generation project was signed on June 10, 2020. It is a 400 MW LNG power plant in Dahida, Yangon. Wei Neng said that the project began commercial operation on June 14, and the LNG used was imported through Malaysia.
The total installed capacity of the three LNG power plants is about 1,000 MW, which is equivalent to about one-third of the electricity generated by Myanmar's existing dry season power grid. The project helps meet the growing energy demand. Editor/Tian Zengpeng
