According to the official determination of China Earthquake Networks, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake occurred in Nyima County, Nagqu City, Tibet at 4:7 on July 23, and another 4.3 magnitude earthquake occurred there at 6:28. After verification, no reports of casualties or house collapse have been received, and the fire and rescue forces have been assembled on standby.

It is understood that the 6.6 magnitude earthquake is the largest earthquake in the area in five years. The two epicenters were not far apart. The focal depth of the magnitude 6.6 earthquake was 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located at 33.19 degrees north latitude and 86.81 degrees east longitude. The 4.3-magnitude earthquake has a focal depth of 7 kilometers and its epicenter is located at 33.24 degrees north latitude and 86.91 degrees east longitude.

In the two earthquakes, there were villages within 10 kilometers, no townships within 20 kilometers, and Rongma Township within 50 kilometers. The epicenter was about 160 kilometers away from Nima County, about 480 kilometers away from Shigatse City, and about 560 kilometers away from Lhasa City.

According to the China Earthquake Network Express Catalog, a total of 57 earthquakes of magnitude 3 and above occurred within 200 kilometers of the epicenter of a magnitude 4.3 earthquake in the past 5 years.

Nyima County belongs to Nagqu City, Tibet. It is located in the lake basin area of the Qiangtang Plateau and borders Xinjiang. It has Kunlun Mountains and Hoh Xil Mountains in the north, and Gangdisi Mountains in the south. The average elevation is above 5,000 meters, and the north is a vast and unmanned area.
