On January 26, 2026, Philippine officials announced that an inter island ferry carrying over 350 people sank in the southern Philippines after midnight that day. Rescue workers have rescued at least 215 passengers and salvaged 7 bodies.

According to reports, officials from the Philippine Coast Guard stated that the sunken ferry was a passenger and cargo ferry that was sailing from the port city of Zamboanga to Holloway Island.
