On October 20, 2020, the Ah-Fu section of the Altay-Fuyun-Zhundong Railway (A-Fuzun Railway) successfully completed the dynamic acceptance and is expected to be put into operation in 2020.

The 420-kilometer Ah-Fuzun Railway is located in Altay Region and Changji Prefecture. The line starts from Altay City, the terminus of the North-Al-Arab Railway, crosses the Kelan River, Karasuke Reservoir, and passes through the Kalamaili Mountain Ungulate Wildlife Nature Reserve District, ending at the Zhundongbei Station, with the northern end connected to the Urumqi (North) General (Junmiao) Railway. Construction started on May 21, 2016.

Wang Jian, deputy director of the Comprehensive Department of the Hami Railway Construction Headquarters of China Railway Urumqi Bureau Group Co., Ltd., introduced that after the opening to traffic, the railway operating mileage from Altay to Urumqi will be shortened from the current 760 kilometers to 640 kilometers, and the running time can be shortened by about 2 hours. At the same time, the Afghanistan-Fuzun Railway, Kuibei Railway, Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway, Bei-Arab Railway, and Uzbekistan-Jiangsu Railway together constitute the Northern Xinjiang Railway Loop. After its opening and operation, the Beijiang Railway Ring will also formally play a role, greatly promoting the development of local mineral resources, stimulating tourism, and boosting the further economic and social development.
