China and Serbia sign a memorandum of understanding on rail vehicle cooperation

On January 6, 2020, China Railway International Co., Ltd., CRRC Co., Ltd., the Ministry of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure of Serbia, and Serbia Railway Rolling Stock Company held a signing ceremony to jointly sign the "Memorandum of Understanding on Rail Vehicle Cooperation." Serbia Minister of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure Momilovic and Ambassador Chen Bo attended the ceremony.

The memorandum will lay the foundation for Serbia to purchase locomotives with a speed of 200 kilometers per hour to meet the future passenger demand of the Belgrade-Novi Sad-Subotica section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway.

Momilovic pointed out that the memorandum is the continuation of the 2009 China-Serbia Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Infrastructure. Its signing marks the continuation of in-depth cooperation with China. It fully embodies the steel friendship between the two countries, thanking China for everything it has done for Serbia.

Ambassador Chen Bo emphasized that China and Serbia have made great efforts for the continuous and steady progress of the Hungary-Serbia railway project. The construction site in the last two months shows that the project has made great progress. The signing of the memorandum has opened up new space for cooperation between the two countries in the field of transportation. China has the most advanced technology in the production of high-speed rail locomotives. Chinese companies are willing to share high technology with Serbia partners and contribute to Serbia’s economic development.
