The Indian government has invested about 5.5 billion rupees ($74.97 million) in the construction of a 17-km extension of the Jaynagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas India-Nepal railway project with a total length of 68.72km.

This route has the famous pilgrimage center Janakpur in Nepal. This move is aimed at improving the railway connection between India and Nepal.

Part of the railway project from Jayanagar, Madhubani District, Bihar to Kurtha, Nepal is also planned to extend to Bijalpura. It is 17 kilometers from Kurta.

The project developed by ircon is expected to be completed in March 2021.

After the Nepalese government handed over the land for the project, it will build a new railway in Bardibas after Bierpura.

Konkan Railway Company provided two sets of 1600 HP DEMU passenger rakes to operate the railway service on the route. Except for the air-conditioned carriages, there are two air-conditioned carriages each. DEMU rakes were handed over to Nepal in September last year.

It is said that this is Nepal's first wide-gauge passenger railway. Prior to this, Nepal had been operating a narrow gauge service between Jayanagar and Janakpur until 2014.

Indian Railways has prepared a draft standard operating procedure (SOP) and shared it with Nepal Railways to start passenger train operations on this section.

Nepal Railway Company is considering KRCL to operate and maintain this line. The two countries are working together to start the establishment of rail services between Jayanagar and Kurtha.

After completing the necessary technical and operational requirements, the service is expected to start.

Last month, Indian Railways obtained all necessary wildlife, forestry and coastal control zone permits in Gujarat and Maharashtra. This is a 508 operating between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Kilometer-long bullet train project.Editor/Huang Lijun
