On October 27, 2021, a consortium consisting of wpd, Vattenfall and BlueFloatEnergy will jointly build a French offshore wind power project. The project will be bid in a tender for floating offshore wind power near the southern coast of Brittany, France. The consortium passed the qualification last month Pre-trial. The proposed floating wind farm is called Triskéol and is associated with Triskel (a symbol of Celtic art) and Aeolus, the wind god. The partners said that in addition to the close connection with the Breton culture, wind turbines were built to convert wind energy into renewable electricity.
The two companies stated: "In the name of Triskéol, the consortium of wpd, Vattenfall and BlueFloatEnergy has integrated into the culture of the Brittany region and demonstrated its desire to gain a foothold in the region." In September 2021, after the French government launched the tendering process in April, it selected several developers and consortia to participate in the country’s first tender specifically for floating wind power, looking for its first 270 MW commercial in southern Brittany. After passing the prequalification, the bidders enter a competitive dialogue before the government bids for construction and operation of the project. Floating wind power tenders are part of the French government's broader plan. According to the multi-year energy plan, 8.75 GW of offshore wind power installed capacity will be tendered by 2028.
