Huawei Digital Energy Technology, a unit of Chinese multinational tech giant Huawei, has signed an agreement with Ghanaian solar project developer Micron Technology to build a 1GW solar power plant and 500MWh of energy storage at an unspecified site in Ghana.

Under the terms of the deal, Huawei will provide storage systems for the project. Meinergy will be responsible for the development and construction of the facility. Huawei said: "Meinergy has been deeply involved in Ghana for many years, and its business covers mining, power, photovoltaic and other fields."

Meinergy vigorously expands its renewable energy business in Ghana and other African countries, providing stable green power to local communities and bridging the power gap. Ghana is stepping up efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in its electricity mix. According to its energy strategy, the country hopes to achieve 2.5GW of renewable energy generation capacity - possibly including hydropower - by 2030.
